Godefroy Zwygart, known as Geeepsy, is an award-winning French artist and curator who has lived in Asia for several decades. After a tumultuous life, he first settled in Taiwan, where he spent nearly ten years in the fashion and magazine world as a photographer and editor-in-chief, working across a wide range of subjects and publications. A commercial photographer for prestigious magazines, well-known brands, and celebrities — including Toyota, Cogito, Carven, US Polo, Dior, L’Oréal, Cartier, Make Up For Ever, and Bluebell — he also served as official photographer for French and Italian Fashion Weeks in Taipei.
      Alongside this, he produced artwork on highly varied themes, with a particular focus on conceptual and artistic nude photography. His works have been exhibited and collected in Europe and Asia. Godefroy now lives in Sanya, where he has opened a small art gallery and represents around ten artists.

*2019 – Chinese Government Friendship Award, the highest distinction granted to foreign nationals in China, presented at a reception hosted by the Chinese Premier in Beijing.

Artistic Approach
     Godefroy now devotes himself primarily to painting. Largely self-taught, he later completed MoMA’s “Abstract Painting” program and a course in arts and cultural strategy with the University of Pennsylvania. He also earned a diploma in the UK specializing in art management aboard superyachts.
     A highly eclectic artist, he moves between abstraction and expressionism. The concept behind his work is both constructive and deconstructive, seeking to convey emotional resonance and evoke complex feelings. Some works show a strong Chinese influence and incorporate feng shui elements; others set natural fluidity against geometric rigidity.

Artist’s Statement
     “Art is a silent language for communicating with people and society without a word, but also an introspective and soothing personal experience. I love the process of entering a Zen state and exploring a fictional sphere. For me, painting is a door to an infinite imaginary world, with no determined forms, colours, figures, or rules. Although I sometimes start from a precise concept, in many cases I simply let myself be carried by the flow, letting nature guide me toward a new experience. My current works are a metaphor between past and future, between reality and illusion. I submit my works to individual interpretation and to each viewer’s own emotions.”
