DONG Yidian was born on December 5, 1966, in Sanya, Hainan. Dong is of the Li ethnic group. He graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and is Vice-Chairman of the Hainan Provincial Artists Association of Ethnic Minorities in China and a member of the French Artists Association. He is currently a freelance artist based in Guangzhou.
Dong stands as a distinguished figure in the contemporary art world, his career adorned with a constellation of accolades that span continents. His honours include the 9th China Contemporary Outstanding Art Achievement Award, the French Overseas Chinese Community Public Charity Award, the Silver Award at the French International Cultural Arts Prize, and the Gold Medal conferred by the Global Alliance for Public Welfare, alongside a wealth of other distinctions. His artistic journey has been widely documented across various print media.
Initially celebrated for his vibrant depictions of Hainan’s natural landscapes—marked by audacious brushwork and saturated palettes—Dong’s practice underwent a profound evolution in 2014. Turning his focus towards the cultural motifs of the Li people, he began weaving together modern sensibilities with ancestral traditions through an expressionist lens. The resulting oil paintings are both visceral and commanding; their unrestrained, weighty strokes conjure an atmosphere that is at once untamed and enigmatic.
Since 2003, Dong has maintained an extensive exhibition record, showcasing his work across Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, and South Korea, as well as within such hallowed institutions as the Carrousel du Louvre and the Grand Palais in Paris. His pieces have entered the private collections of former French presidents and prominent European dignitaries alike.

自2003年起，他在国内外举办了广泛的展览，足迹遍布意大利、法国、瑞士、德国及韩国等地，并曾登上巴黎卢浮宫卡鲁塞尔厅及大皇宫等顶级艺术殿堂。其佳作曾被法国前总统及多位欧洲政要收藏。现居广州并从事创作。
