LI Yucheng is a young emerging artist. At just twenty years old, he is a good example of what, in many ways, Chinese traditional painting could become when combined with modern techniques. Using his Chinese cultural background, he develops its meanings with bright hues, layer thickness and daring shapes. To further his research in that direction, he follows art classes with French artist Pascal Maljette.
His paintings are intense, colorful and strange, oscillating between abstract and figurative. Even if the subjects are easy to capture, his work brims with distorted, entangled figures in a choreographic dimension featuring hidden under layers of colors and cross-hatching technique. He enters his canvas and conquers its space, controlling the surface with irrepressible, vigorous motions in a kind of magnetic performance. His bursting canvases are saturated with color, outlines, and shapes. Inspired by landscapes, flowers and nature, he just tries to convey vivid emotions through his painting.
Yucheng studied graphic design at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. This year he has been admitted to the University for the Creative Arts of Farnham in the UK. Yucheng is definitely a young promising artist with great potential who is worthy of attention.
